Creative Gardening with Containers for all Aspects and Seasons

Our gardens are continuing to grow and it can be a race between the plants starting to grow and the weeds appearing in our borders; both seem to be flourishing. Unfortunately,  the weeds and sometimes naturalised plants do tend to win and I am sure we all have different plants that love our gardens more than we love them! In my garden the Spanish bluebells do tend to take over very quickly as well as the forget-me-nots, although the last are quite easy to contain. The blue bells look lovely but provide a constant challenge to keep in check and I have had to let go of the illusion that I may win at some stage!! Containment is my new mantra. A lot of work ahead for us gardeners in the next few months, but in the end, it is very rewarding.
The date for our next Zoom talk on Thursday April 29th is coming closer. Our speaker for that night is Hester Forde; she is going to talk about gardening with containers for all aspects and seasons.
Hester Forde is a renowned plants person, lecturer and garden writer. Visitors to her garden, Coosheen in Co Cork, will know that she has an insatiable appetite for plants. Coosheen houses a unique collection of plants which provide year round interest. Alongside, Hester runs a small nursery and has over 30 years of experience in growing and propagating. Her garden has featured in a number of renowned publications such as ‘The ‘Garden’, ‘Eden’ and ‘Gardens Illustrated’ and she is a regular contributor to ‘The Irish Garden’ magazine. Hester is well known as the driving force behind the annual Snowdrop Gala and the Cork Alpine Hardy Plant Society and she has lectured extensively throughout Ireland and the UK.
Details of the talk
Date:                   Thursday 29th April 2021
Time:                   8.00 pm – sign in from 7.55 pm
Title:                    Creative gardening with containers for all aspects and seasons
                                       Achieving eye-catching plant combination effects.
The talk should fit in with a time in the year when most plants, especially annuals, can go out into the garden as the danger of night frost is nearly over and planters do add an extra dimension.
I will send out a reminder of the talk and the details of the Zoom link early next week.
Hope you can all join us!
