Maintenance of Planters on Clontarf Seafront

The weather continues to be very unpredictable after the long sunny spell, which helped a lot of us during the early days of the COVID 19 virus. That lovely spell of weather has now changed to a more normal Irish summer and we have seen a drop in temperature and a lot of rain. Our gardens have flourished though, after that long dry spell, which had left the ground very dry and, due to the hose ban, it was much more difficult to keep our flowers growing. The rain has certainly made a difference in growth and colour everywhere! Most of us have enjoyed getting back to planting and seeing the positive results.
The Clontarf Garden Society has been contacted by the Clontarf Residents Association (CRA) in relation to the planters along the Clontarf Coast Road. The CRA has taken on the responsibility for these planters from Dublin City Council and they are looking for advice/help from members of the Clontarf Garden Society, as the experts in gardening, plants etc., to work with the CRA to fill and/or maintain the planters with the overall aim to improve the aesthetics of the Clontarf area. The CRA will supply the plants

A list of the location of the planters can be seen below.
If anyone would be interested in helping out with this joint initiative, we are looking for volunteers to maintain a planter near to where you live. This would mean for example; planting, watering. weeding etc. The access to water for the planters will need further discussion with the CRA. Ideally, we are hoping to get enough volunteers between ourselves and the CRA to be able to assign 2 or 3 people to each planter, that way the workload will be shared. As the old saying goes: “many hands make light work”.
