Autumn has started, but as the weather is still very mild and calm, most gardens still show a lot of flowers and flowering shrubs. Most trees are still green, thus creating a sense of summer. Adding to this illusion is that the Chelsea Flower Show, normally shown in May, has moved to September and is being broadcast on both BBC 1 and 2 all this week as a reminder of summer and growth. It is lovely to see all the late summer/autumn flowers, like Dahlias, centre stage in the various show gardens and arrangements on show.
Unfortunately, Autumn is coming and the leaves on the trees are starting to change colour, some have started falling and the days are getting shorter, reminding us that Winter is coming closer. While the good weather lasts, enjoy your garden and the many opportunities in the area around Clontarf to go for walks and enjoy the autumn!
Zoom talk on Thursday 21st October 2021
Although a lot of covid restrictions have eased, the Clontarf Garden Society Committee has decided to stay with the Zoom option for our next meeting. Our talk is planned for 21st October, due to the mid-term holiday, and the date for the easing of further restrictions is Friday 22nd October. As it is difficult to predict what will happen with the Covid19 Delta variant and if new variants will develop in the meantime, it seemed sensible to stay with the Zoom option for October.
Details of the talk
Date: Thursday 21st October 2021
Time: 8.00 pm – sign in 7.55 pm
Speaker: Mary Keenan
Title: The wonder of winter
I will email the Zoom link and further details of this talk in early to mid-October.
Possible Christmas gettogether – Thursday 25th November 2021
During the committee’s discussion about the possibility of having meetings/get-togethers before the end of the year, it was decided that, if the infection level allows, to try and have a Christmas gettogether on Thursday 25th November at 8.00 pm in the Parish Hall. It will be difficult to finalise that for the moment, but if it is possible, it would be an informal meeting with tea, coffee and homemade biscuits/cakes of course. It would give everyone a chance to catch up with fellow gardeners and others!!
Details of the activities/gettogether in November will be sent out towards the end of October.
We hope you can all join us for the Zoom talk in October,
