Wollerton Old Hall Garden: A Year in the Garden

Happy New Year to all and keep up the good spirit until we can all breath easier after our vaccinations!!!!

This year has been around for a good few days now and we’re continuing in quarantine during this cold spell and without a lot of gardening jobs waiting but in plenty of time to plan for a new season. My new year’s resolution is to grow early potatoes this year so that, maybe, I can have them for dinner in a post lockdown time. I just ordered them from Mr Middleton and they should arrive towards the end of January. It’s time for a new project and I’m looking forward to it!!
Zoom Talks
Clontarf Garden Society is organising Zoom talks for the next few months and once the full programme has been finalised, which should be in the next 2 weeks, I will send out the full list of talks to you all.
Wollerton Old Hall, Shropshire
The talk this month, January, is about the garden of Wollerton Old Hall in Shropshire. The talk will be given by Phil Smith, who was the Head Gardener in Wollerton till the end of December 2020. Wollerton was created by the owners John and Leslie Jenkins from 1984. Wollerton is a modern garden, set out in different rooms, with echoes of Arts and Crafts. It is filled with interesting topiary, stunning herbaceous borders and numerous design ideas. Phil will talk about the development of the garden and the changes throughout the season.
